Why it works from Alpine Lodge
Cheat River Outfitters in Albright has been running guided whitewater since 1975. The big one is the Cheat Canyon: a 13-mile, 6-to-7-hour run of Class III-V rapids through a wilderness canyon, best in the spring melt from March into early June and again after heavy rain. For a shorter, easier day, the Class II-III Cheat Narrows runs as a half-day trip.
Davis makes a sensible base for it. Sleep and eat in town at fair prices, drive over for the river day, and come back to a straightforward room instead of paying adventure-resort rates.
Before you go
- Book directly with Cheat River Outfitters and ask about water levels before you commit to a date.
- The Canyon trip has an age minimum and an early departure; the Narrows is the better pick for younger or first-time paddlers.
- Pack dry clothes, secured shoes, and a towel for the drive back to Davis.
